Today was much better overall than yesterday. I had two good classes — I’m actually really enjoying my anthropology class this semester, even though I know it’s still very early on. But it’s a definite improvement over last semester. I think the professor makes all the difference.
I didn’t eat much early in the day, just because of a lack of time/a need to finish an assignment before its due date, but I certainly made up for it later on. I was doing really well, actually, until I got a call from two wonderful friends saying that they had a surprise for me and I should get to Joey’s place right away. Jessica and James, who I’ve known since middle school, baked cookies for Joey and I to help us feel better. Isn’t that sweet? I thought it was so great of them, and I did feel a lot better, just knowing that they took the time out to bake cookies, and even just knowing that they thought of us at all! [Not that they're insensitive, but it's just so nice of them!]
I had planned, yet again, on waking up earlier than necessary for class, getting to work on [and hopefully finishing early] an online assignment that was due at 2:15pm, and maybe even getting some breakfast into me before heading to class at 11am. Unfortunately, not only did I hit the snooze button, but I plain old rolled over, and reset my alarm for an hour later! At least I’m fully aware that I did it, otherwise it could be bad news! I got a bit of work done on my assignment before my first class, and grabbed a cocoa coconut larabar out of the cupboard before running out the door. It served as breakfast and part of lunch today, as I didn’t have time between 12:30 and 2 this afternoon for lunch either, as I was still finishing that stupid assignment! It turned out to be much more involved than I thought it would be, much to my dismay. I did, however, finish it on time, and even made it to class on time too! But not before grabbing a handful of sliced ham [okay, I know that this is totally gross] and eating it on the way to campus. It was the first thing I saw when I opened the fridge, and I knew it would be easy and give me the protein that I needed to get through class on so little.
That ham did pretty well! I didn’t get hungry again until about 5:30, and then I put my arch nemesis in the oven: chicken fingers and spicy fries. I totally shouldn’t have done this, but I just couldn’t help myself. I wanted something with no prep time, no work involved, and that tasted good. Maybe I’m more of an emotional eater than I thought I was, only in a different way than most! I gobbled those down so quickly, and almost thought about going back for more chicken fingers, but stopped myself, with a: I’m full, I don’t need them, just leave them in the fridge. [I cooked a few extras to heat up quickly for a wrap or something.]
That was when I got the call. I wasn’t sure what was coming; my birthday isn’t for another two weeks, and I knew that they wouldn’t have gotten me anything, especially not this early. I honestly couldn’t think of what they could have been doing, and why they would want me to go to Joey’s to get it? Absolutely beyond me. I got to his place to find a ziploc container on the counter containing a few different kinds of cookies. It was wonderful! I stayed and visited with them, and the others that showed up throughout the night, and along the way ate two of the delightful oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. They were so yummy!
With the cookies and company, I just didn’t want to leave! Especially knowing that I would be coming back to a house with a sleeping roommate, quiet house, darkness, and knowing that I would need to go to bed soon myself [my eyelids are drooping as I type!]. I’ve been having strange dreams lately, and I don’t know if that’s got something to do with all the stress and upset that’s been happening in the past few days, or what. That must be it.
Classes for me start at 9:15 tomorrow morning, which means that I should head to slumber land, whether I like it or not! Wish me sweet dreams [or none at all]!
